This treatment is the most corrective treatment for chronic or cystic acne, acne rosacea, sun-damaged skin, enlarged pores, and Actinic Keratosis precancerous skin growths.
WHAT DOES PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY DO AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) is an FDA-approved treatment that uses a topical photosensitizing agent called Levulan® (5-aminolevulinic acid or ALA ) in conjunction with Blue Light Therapy to effectively treat acne, rosacea, sun-damaged skin, enlarged pores, and reduce oil glands. Treatment also removes precancerous spots called Actinic Keratoses. During the procedure, Levulan® is applied to your skin and then activated with the correct wavelength of light to kill unwanted cells.

How much does it cost?
The cost of PhotoDynamic Therapy starts at $1200.
How many sessions are required?
A series of three treatments 2-4 weeks apart is the most effective way to achieve maximum improvement for chronic acne. Mild cases may only require one treatment. Some patients with only Actinic Keratoses are satisfied with just one treatment. More treatments can be done at periodic intervals to maintain the skin’s rejuvenated appearance.
How long does the process take?
The actual treatment takes only 30 minutes. However, after we apply the Levulan, you must leave it on for 2-4 hours. We provide a quiet, dimly lit room for this part of the treatment. Sometimes, patients even go up the street and enjoy a movie at the nearby theater.
How quickly do I see the results?
You will see results in 2 weeks.
How long do the results last?

What is the downtime?
There is a 7-10 day downtime where your skin is red and peeling.
Is it safe?
Yes. This treatment is FDA-approved.
What are the side effects?
Temporary redness, peeling, and swelling of the lip and eye area may occur for 2-7 days post-treatment. Some patients may experience marked redness to their skin. Darker pigmented patches called liver spots may become temporarily darker and then peel off, revealing healthy skin. This usually occurs over 7 to 10 days.
Is the treatment painful?
Treatment is uncomfortable but not painful.

Treatments are performed by our registered nurses, nurse practitioners, PAs, and LVN’s.
