Within a week to 10 days you should be finished peeling when doing a medium depth peel.  Over the course of a month you will see improvement in texture and tone.

With lighter peels you may not experience any more than a few days of flaking or you may not flake at all yet experience a hydrated and healthy glow.   You may experience peeling beginning on day 2-3 and may continue to peel for 7 to 10 days depending on the type of peel and your skin.

Is it safe?
